Britney Spears Perfume – Part 1
I know, I know. You’re sick of hearing about Britney Spears, aren’t you? Me too. She’s all over the tabloids, the rumor mills, the gossip pages, the movie screen, and now – now she’s got a fourth perfume out to tickle your nose hairs, if you have any.
Ok, so I’m not a Britney Spears fan, but you don’t have to be a fan of the woman to like her perfumes. At least, I don’t think so. All that’s required is a nose and an appreciation of good smells. That is to say, I liked it; I’m not sure if you will, but it can’t hurt to try!
Britney Spears has four different perfumes on the market right now. The first three (Curious, Fantasy, and In Control) were released annually beginning in 2004. Curious actually won best fragrance in 2004 and 2005. The newest fragrance is Fantasy Midnight, and it has debuted to mixed reviews. You can find Britney Spears perfumes online or you can go to your local department stores. Your best bet would be to shop online – it’s cheaper, though you can’t smell them first.
Britney Spears perfumes are made my Elizabeth Arden with complete cooperation of the star. In other words, Britney does know these are being sold in her name and is most likely getting a big slice of the perfume pie. Britney Spears is just one in a long line of celebrities diving into the world of perfumes, swimming in the same pool as Elizabeth Taylor, Prince and fellow blonde Paris Hilton.
Britney Spears first perfume was called Curious, and as mentioned, it won best fragrance of 2004 and best women’s fragrance of 2005. Britney was reportedly paid 12 million dollars to put her name on the bottle, a bottle which went on to earn over 100 million dollars for Elizabeth Arden and company. It came in your choice of blue or pink and is described by wearers as a light floral scent.
Britney Spears second perfume was entitled Fantasy and it turned out to be just that. Fantasy, although backed by an outrageously expensive marketing campaign, never panned out with wearers. Many of them described it as a cheap attempt at strawberry, and some actually went so far as to say it made them feel nauseous after wearing it for a while. The bottle didn’t fare any better…it was described as a Christmas ornament or a lame attempt at a Love Potion No. 9 bottle.
Next on the Britney Spears perfume list was In Control. Touted as a mix between Curious and Fantasy, it was instead described as a mix of the worst parts of both perfumes. The smell was praised by nearly everyone who smelled it, but over and over complaints came in about the staying power. Most wearers stated that it only lasted about an hour, then it faded away.
The latest Britney Spears perfume, Midnight, has been plagued with troubles, though different from the last perfume. This time the complaint wasn’t that it was too weak, instead, it was too strong! Many wearers described it as an intoxicating, or even sickening, effect after wearing it for an hour or two. The scent has been compared to grape bubblegum or grape kool-aid.
Price usually runs about $50 – $70 dollars in department stores, but do a little searching and you’ll have it at $30 – $50. These prices are for a 3.3 oz bottle. Overall, these perfumes have a slightly higher positive review, but it’s so close I’d have to call it a toss-up. Your best bet is to try it on at the store, find the one you like, then come back online and get it cheaper.
